Silt soil. Hardly the sexiest thing you'll see coming from the land of Catherine Zeta Jones, but without them we wouldn’t get our sensational bounty of Really Welsh leeks. It's packed full of lovely nutrients that give our leeks that rounded, alluring taste and make them so good for you at the same time. That along with the high summer rainfall (please don't tell the Wales tourist board) makes them grow really healthily.
We’ve got the cooler North Wales climate to thank for our lovely leeks too. They just don't get on with the barmy southern sunshine and, when they’re hand harvested from September until March, it shows. They reach you in perfect condition – exactly as leeks were meant to be.
Really Welsh leeks are looked after by Andy Blair, who loves Wales more than dragons do, and he’s on a mission to produce great quality, fresh, local produce that are packed full of flavour. He’s succeeding too. Wales is the spiritual home of the leek after all, and if Andy gets his way, every spare field will be used for them (don’t worry, we don’t think he will).
